type 55 film

I've decided to shoot some more images on my iphone using a new app I bought; Photo 55. It's a new app from Double H Productions that lets you create the look of the classic Type 55 or 665 film, with just a couple of clicks. It produces digital black and white images that look similar to Polaroid type 55 film. Polaroid Type 55 film is a black-and-white peel-apart Polaroid film that yields both a positive print and a negative image. Unfortunately in 2008 Polaroid decided to stop producing all instant film, including Type 55. Even with this sad loss in the photography world it's great that photographers and various software companies are keeping the spirit of simple vintage photography but with a digital edge. Also it had great to leave color alone for a bit and just focus solely on light, shadow, and shape; even if it's just with an iphone app.

Digital Photography never felt so analong

Today's post is dedicated to the hipstamatic app on my ipod touch (aka the poor man's iphone) I love the vignetting, funky color tones, and how the viewfinder is slightly off. It's a nice way to let my control-freak self to let go and enjoy the organic nature of photography.

Sun-set; taken outside my house

I had to include this one. I have no idea who NOVA is or why he get's his own parking spot. All I know if I love NOVA the show and NOVA science now online. A snapshot was vital.

Black and White print of tree-dirt scattered in a parking lot

Hipstamatic is also a great way to make a boring and conventional photos (famous buildings, mediocre landscapes, statues) have a whole new feeling and vibe to them

post hurricane cycling

Hurricane Irene has really been messing with my mind. Idk if I regret not shooting the storm or not. I knew I would have gotten some awesome images, but the news told EVERYONE stay home and do not go out to take pictures or go shopping ect. I decided to follow orders and stay home and hope the power didnt go out. I have a few images from the Cycles 54 Twilight Series in Lakewood NJ. Great time of day to shoot.

How great is this Cat 5's face?

This is Anthony, David's brother. He not nearly as good a cyclist as David, has a butt-chin, and is mean to me. Unfortunately he's my boyfriend's brother so I have to be nice to him. This is one the best photos taken of him cycling and he knows it, he just doesn't want to admit that his brother's girlfriend shot it

David warming up for his race

Cat 1-2

The break away and winner of the Cat 1-2. There was a bad crash on the last lap and these two lucky guys were the only ones head of it. They're one the same team and we talking and giving each other high-fives the whole last lap

until next time guys

Belmar

I went down the shore last weekend with my family and my mom's friend and his kids. We had great weather. I brought my mom's nikon coolpix point and shoot and got some good shots of my mom's friend's family. Although I was reminded why auto-mode drives me nuts.

Narrative on the Highline NYC

My narrative; The perfect day for shooting on the Highline NYC is ruined by rain. It is slightly autobiographical. I always aim to shoot provocative and creative images when I am at places commonly photographed. I find places that are highly covered more difficult to shoot, I know there is a surplus of stock images online stronger than mine if I shoot the expected. My original idea was to shoot photographers; amateur, hobbyists, and professionals, who were photographing the Highline and what their images might be. About 30-45 minutes after I arrived there was a sun-shower starting and I decided to keep shooting. I like the way it turned out. It's more sequential than my original idea, and it forced me to improve my skills with the fourth dimension; time. Also all the umbrellas in the city popping up remind me of desert flowers blooming in the rain.

Motion

I did a small study on motion today. Stop action, panning, and motion blur. It does feel weird how I ended up shooting a nice chunk of cyclist shots. Even the little girl is riding a tricycle. All the bike races I go to must be rubbing off on me. Future idea; 100 cyclist??? maybe?

still life

EXCITING- I finished editing a still life project I did. I'm very happy with the result, considering I don't consider myself a still life photographer. Though I did cheat a bit and include some of my class mates looking through the view finder as extras. The lighting was to beautiful not to.
